I hope you enjoyed your April 1st!
For the first time in over 900 years, Croatia is reintroducing monarchy with its own ruler. King John I Konjic (Ivan Prvi Konjić) has today been sworn onto the throne by cardinal Bozanić in a traditional ceremony.
Prime Minister Kosor has announced that the coup occured on Tuesday and announced the results of a voting in the Sabor, Croatian parliamentary body, in which it has dissolved itself bringing an end to the short lived Democracy. Public television, KKS or Kraljevski Krugovalno-dalekoglednički Sustav (Royal Radio-Television System; until recently Hrvatska Radio-Televizija) has reported cheering on the streets.
King was installed through a short, but violent coup taking place in the governmental and parliamentary building, which resulted in several light injuries. Several neighboring states have announced sending observers to verify that transition of power has support of the people.
Croatia is the first state in Europe to restore monarchy in over half a century. It is a thrilling experience to live in this time and age. Svi na pozdrav Kralju! All hail the King!
